Re: [RC] [Endurance Riding: News] FRA: New Champions of France - Truman Prevatt

Back a long time ago when there was a fist fight over who controlled amateur athletics in the US (where there was really amateur athletics in the US). Clearly the AAU had no status with the NCAA - although they tried especially with track and field. The AAU wanted to snuggle up to the IOC and get some Olympic money. They tried to force anyone running in college to become members of the AAU. It was a protracted fist fight - the AAU lost. At that time the "National Track and Field Championship" was an NCAA event. The AAU had it's own which it called the the "United States Track and Field Championship." So there is a history. I never paid my AAU dues and I ran in both. I got all sorts of nasty letters from the AAU which my coach told me give to him so they could beat the AAU up in court again.

I tend to agree - it should be changed to AERC Championship for accuracy. However, there is the concept in common law about who was there first. The AERC was there long before USEF (or at that time American Horse Shoe Association) had endurance on its radar screen. They (AERC) used the term National Champion in several different formats but National Championship none the less going way back prior to before AHSA had endurance on its radar screen. So I expect the AREC does own that term.

So maybe it's the AERC's way of poking the USEF ant hill - especially since the USEF made a failed run at the AERC over the issue.

What about the 'N' part of AERC NC? seems that National is about the same as United States? And I've always wondered how the non-USA members of AERC felt about that. It should technically be the AERC Championship if it's supposed to be for AERC members only. Or if it's only for Nationals it should be the National Championship. hmmm....

Well it is the AERC NC - not the United States National Championship - which I would expect would be in the preview of the USEF and not the AERC to run - or at least I suspect that is what the USEF would claim since they tried to lay claim the the AERC NC a few years ago. If USEF wanted to run a US NC - they could do it any way they wanted.

Also of note, the french swept - the first 16 finishing were from France. Nice to see they have the confidence to run with all comers (a poke at the AERC ant-hill, which refuses to allow an open division at their NC b/c they don't want any furiners besting the locals:)
