[RC] Horse Feed at Rides - Bruce Weary DCOut West, they sometimes do things a little different. At the Warner Springs ride, Terry Wooley-Howe puts out a spread for man and beast at the vet checks. She actually has "waiters" and "waitresses" circulating to offer water, donuts, coffee, fresh fruit, Gatorade, and all kinds of goodies carried on trays, like in a restaurant. They will hold your horse while you visit the porta-potties that are placed at each vet check. Someone will even trot your horse out for you if you are really feeling like a princess. The horses are furnished mash, carrots, alfalfa hay, grass hay, sweet feed, blankets and unlimited water for dousing and drinking. Her rides are almost always sold out due to the pampering of the riders and horses, as well as the well marked challenging trails. There is a lavish and festive banquet after the ride at a nearby resort, with gifts and completion awards galore. Her long-sleeved T-shirts and sweatshirts are highly coveted. The Wickenburg ride provides pizza snacks and drinks before the ride meeting, and a literal smorgasboard is set up at the vet check including sandwich meats and breads, condiments, chips, muffins, sodas, cookies, coffee, bottled water-- a veritable picnic. The horses are provided mash, hay and carrots, and people circulate to offer blanketing and to hold your horse. Yes, portapotties, and a fabulous after ride banquet in the town hall auditorium, also with lots of awards. If it weren't for these rides, I could probably compete in a lower weight class.
