Re: [RC] Florac - rides2far

I was just speaking in the name of the organizer. It doesn't mean >
that I'm seconding these actions for easing the trail of the Florac >
race.> It seems that the endurance community in France is divided, pros
and
contras. Some are thinking that Florac must remains Florac including >
the original course design and also >>>the rocky trails.

OK folks. The more I think about this the more I wonder how long our
tough 100's will hold out. There's a limited pool of 100 mile riders.
They set this COC speed for fast courses drawing the top horses there.

Florac had been around for THIRTY FIVE YEARS. Can you imagine taking the
canyons out of Tevis to make it fast, but still calling it Tevis? How's
about a 100 mile Old Dominion that stays down in the grassy fields
instead of crisscrossing the mountains? Will people in France say, "I
did Florac when it was *really* Florac...we *did* the 10 KM climb at the
end and nobody crushed our rocks for us". Will people distinguish their
Florac completion by saying, "It was pre- 07 on the traditional French
style course"?

WHO requires the dumbing down of these courses? Well...it's people who
have to have fast times to qualify for international competitions and
because many are doing this sport for money. It is their JOB, and they
work for someone...probably not a Frenchman, who requires that they do it
*their* way. When you decide that your country's tradition means
nothing....when you decide to sell your soul, where does the bidding
start? I feel for those who wanted to keep the traditional course. How
soon till they approach individuals in charge of our tougher courses?
What will they offer them?

Angie
