[RC] Assisi ride stats - Don Huston

78 started, 13 finished = 17% completion = F even for those of us in
public school. Obviously none of those riders had any intention of
finishing the ride. They rode their horses with the sole intention of
either winning or being pulled. IMHO the teams that tried to compete
at Assisi under this apparent motto of
ride-to-win-or-be-pulled  displayed an appalling lack of conditioning
and the skill necessary to compete in such a race as evidenced by the
miserable completion rate. It really seems like a scam has been
perpetrated where the elite few (maybe 10?) set up a race against the
locals by assuring them that they have a chance and then just blow
them away. I have no idea what each team paid to enter but if 68
local patsies paid $500 that would add an extra $34,000 to pay for
the festivities and lots of teams to make it look like there was a
real race going on when in reality the patsies never had a chance and
the Grand Prix finish was necessary to eliminate any further
humiliation of the locals. I certainly hope those poorly conditioned
and over ridden horses recover okay and that their riders have
learned to not be fodder for the elite and their racing scams.
