As always. it contains useful information for members as well as 
informing us what one of our committees is doing.

In the article "Post-ride fatalities on the increase" there's a 
statement worth considering:

There appears to be somewhat of a stigma amongst riders associated 
with fluid therapy in their horses. As veterinarians, we need to 
work together to rid the sport of this stigma. It will virtually 
always benefit a horse to have fluid therapy post-ride. It is not 
worth losing one’s horse to a very treatable condition such as 
ileus merely because of this stigma.

There's a number of other good observations in this article that 
members should be aware of.

"The RO is to be used only if the rider cannot continue or elects 
not to continue due to their own illness, injury or personal 
circumstances. If a rider is electing not to continue, the horse 
must still be examined by the ride vet (all horses entered in AERC 
sanctioned rides are to be examined by a control vet regardless if 
the rider is electing not to continue) and the horse must be 
deemed fit to continue in order to use this code."
