As someone pointed out, with the "feel good" but
misguided push to make ethanol, more corn and less hay will be
raised, and the price of hay can't help but rise. Now factor in the "feel
good" but misguided anti-slaughter legislation and you have a perfect storm for
horse prices to drop to literally nothing. I'd really hate to be a breeder
right now. Even those that presell their babies before the mare is even
bred may find people opting out and giving up the deposit in order to not pay
$20. a bale for hay. Of course, if Icelandics eat proportionally less
according to their size, maybe we'll all be tolting instead of trotting. .
