RE: [RC] Dealing with race-brain - Jim Holland

Great article, Karen.

Initially only be concerned with training, not completing to establish the
ground rules your horse must obey. Then you move up to completing without
regard to where you finish. Then?and only then?.do you increase your speed
to a pace that is ?comfortable for that horse on that day on that trail?.
If you allow the horse to make decisions, then he will continue to do so.
In the words of Pat Parelli, ?Horse are experts in figuring out what comes
after what comes after?.

Their memory is a lot better than their cognitive skills!

Subject: [RC] Dealing with race-brain

I wrote this a couple of years ago for the Quicksilver newsletter.? It won't
work for everybody, but there is some advice in this article on " Managing a
Hot-Wired Horse" that some might find useful.? It has worked well for my
horses, some of which have required a great deal of patience.? But it's been
worth it.? ;-)?? Karen??
