The above link is for a hay broker on the east coast. He has crunched a few numbers and recommends "hay bale pooling", similar to "car pooling" :-\. Anyway, if several people pool their money and buy 50 tons (assuming that to be 1000 bales just for crunching) at $200 per ton and ship it 300 miles at $3 per mile the total cost is $10,900 for 1000 bales = $11 per 100lb bale. How does that compare to feeding 100lbs of pellets in your area. Might be worth while to look into.
