RE: [RC] [RC] When a horse is marketed as "Sweepstakes eligible" - Jannelle Wilde & Adam Falk
Yes. However, in the NW, there are some
of us lobbying for rides to be sanctioned by AHA. And there are two of us who
have paid out of pocket for rides to be sanctioned and assisted the ride
managers in any extra paperwork (or at least we’ve offered). We even
thought we might get some money from the region budget to sanction rides
however that fell thru. We’re working on it for next year. And if a
ride is AHA sanctioned, those participating in the incentive programs that AHA
offers, do not have to send in the info separately to the AHA and then wait for
them to post that info.
Because there was a great deal of movement
to get rides sanctioned by those who care (btw, I don’t have sweepstakes
horses but would like to see it a value-added feature for those who do), the
Nances, here in Oregon, made several thousand dollars off their horses and
those that they bred and have gone onto successful endurance careers.
It’s not perfect nor perfect for
everyone however if a person is consistently a top ten finisher, it might be good
to consider.

<<The rules have changed however, if you consistently finish in
the top 6,
good money is there for endurance horses because you get "points" for
every
horse you finish in front of not just the other AHA sweepstake horses in the
ride...in a 50, that could be a lot of horses.

This is true ONLY if the ride is
'sanctioned by AHA'. If all AERC rides were sanctioned, it might be a
good deal (remember you have to PAY $100 a year just to collect points).
In our region, I believe only one ride is an AHA ride and that is the Texas
Bluebonnet, which is the AHA regional ride. Louise Burton, reg 9 rep for AHA endurance
