Re: [RC] Girl POWER! - Dot WigginsIn the past the general feeling was that fillies and mares might be "undependable" in the spring due to heat cycles. With today's knowledge and meds, this may no longer be true. Obviously not at the Belmont this time. What a lot of heart both horses showed coming down the last quarter! Must have changed leads 3 times, but she clearly outdueled Curlin.
Is there a physiological reason why mares aren't winning these races (I suspect this is not the case), or is it a money thing (i.e., stallions are more profitable for breeding if they have a great race record?) Never have paid attention to the gender of who's at the racetrack. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
