RE: [RC] Adequan injection sites - heidi

This is the first that I've ever heard of such a permanent consequence.  I've certainly seen swellings and resultant "bagginess" in the pectoral area from injections, but have never seen or heard of a permanent "bag" left there.

On the other hand, I've personally experienced having to get gallons of pus out of a rump and having to scrape out the resultant dead and rotting muscle tissue, and have had to treat innumerable horses for consequences of injections in the neck.  Reactions can and will happen regardless of the injection site--but over the years, the back of the thigh and the pectoral area have been the two areas that have most consistently recovered without permanent damage, in my experience.

The only time I ever had a problem with an injection was when the vet gave it in the pectoral. After a few days, the sight swelled & the horse was sore for several days. When the hard swelling went down the area was “baggy” for a few weeks or more. . I did some research, and read that often this swelling leaves a permanent baggy chest area and so is not used often for injections.
