Re: [RC] [RC] Helmets and head shape - Dawn CarrieThe "Great Helmet Hunt" is surpassed only by the "Great Saddle Hunt." LOL My style of helmet hunting is to go to a store that has darn near every brand and style known to mankind and spread them all out on the floor and try them all on over and over, gradually narrowing the choices as I go. The one thing that I absolutely cannot tolerate is *any* kind of pressure on the sides of my head, above my ears. I used the Troxel Spirit for a number of years, as it had the best fit I'd found, although it was just a tad bit "rocky" - tipping forward and back a tiny bit. But no pressure on the sides. I'd tried on all styles of Troxel, International, Tipperary, and many others.
A couple of months ago I was shopping for a new helmet and tried on a funky-looking new Troxel style, that they'd come out with to entice the "poke 'n plod" western riders to wear helmets...it has some suede on the outside to make it look "western-y", and mesh over the air vents to convince those riders that now branches won't enter the air vents and skewer them and lift them off their horses...you know, like happens to those of us with open air vents all the time. <G> Anyhow, the sales lady showed it to me and I figured what the heck, and plopped it on my head...and the dang thing felt like it had been made from a mold of my head! Sold! It's a little bit heavier than some other helmets, but because it fits me soooo well, I still forget that it's on. It has an even newer adjustment system than the dial...just squeeze the back to get an exact fit. I'm tickled to death with it.
Just goes to show that there's no substitute for spending time trying these critters on!
