Are riders who won't let an obviously faster horse
pass considered rude or is it just the nature of the sport?
I had a woman at FITS come flying back past me,
wanting to do an all-out race, after I caught and eased past her.
Thought it was bad sportsmanship on her part and wasn't going to get into such a
match with someone I didn't know at that point in the race. I let her go
and she eventually turned off shortly afterward when the trail split (25 milers
went one way, 50s went another.) Couldn't see a reason to blow out my
horse at that point in the race.
A little competitiveness is cool, but I've never
tried to get into a peeing match when an obviously faster horse overtakes
me... I thought the ordeal was rather rude. Maybe it is the strategy
required to win, though, and I should take notes.
