Re: [RC] rude riders and rules - Eric Rueter

This sub thread is a good analogy / example of why it would be hard to
write a rule or make a definition of "rude" behavior. No one agrees on
what "handicapped" means in the rule stated below.

To me it's the classic "I know pornography when I see it". I know "rude
when I see it also, but what is rude behavior to me today, may not be to
you, or may not be to me tomorrow, or may be tolerated if a different
person is exhibiting the rude act.

I honestly believe that it would be very hard to uphold a DQ at a protest
*IF* the only reason was "rude" behavior. Now throw in some "dangersous",
unsportsman like conduct (also hard to define) and you might have a much
better case.

BTW -- my take on the "handicap" is the handicap must be sever enough that
the person would have trouble "caring" for the horse. Example would be a
wheelchair bound person who could not mount without assistance of a
helper, and therefore either the helper would have to ride along with
them, or the person could not dismount anywhere on the trail. Not being
able to trot the horse out for a VC would classify you as "handicap" IMHO.

thanx eric

I have trotted out "handicapped" riders' mounts for them a number of
times at NATRC rides. The riders were otherwise capable of caring for
and riding their horses, just like one generally does at an AERC ride.

To get back to the rude riders, I'm afraid the mom in me demands that
childish behavior leads to childish treatment. Perhaps they should be
required to ride under a "sponsor" who can babysit them and teach them
the manners their parents obviously neglected. And who could have them
pulled at the drop of a hat for misbehavior...I'm thinking along the
lines of a probation officer :-/
