[RC] Save fuel the 4 legged way - Kathleen A. CrothersI'm late getting into the topic. Back in the early 70's when fuel was in short supply, cheap but short supply, my friend got together a group of women to protest the shortage and we rode from her place about 7 miles outside the suburbs in Denver. I was riding an arab but not into endurance yet. We rode to a local grocery store. One gal called the tv stations and newspapers. We made signs to carry on our horses to protest the fuel shortage. One lady's sign said " save gas ride a horses A--". We got a lot of attention. The store manager had water and hay out for our horses. My horse was very relaxed and ate like a pig there. Guess that is why I like my current endurance horse so well he also eats like a pig and he has similar bloodlines with several lines to Witez!!. We couldn't carry too many groceries on horseback but one lady was leading a pack horse for that . We had a blast. I was a school teacher at the time and much to my surprise one day when we got our weekl y reader there was a picture of our goup with a heading "What are these ladies doing". The kids and I got a kick out of that. Thanks for the memories.
