As we discuss identification, I just want to clarify:
Freeze marking generally (though probably not always) refers to using a
"group" type mark, like the "international alpha angle system" where no two
horses should share the same mark.
Freeze branding generally (though probably not always) refers to using an
"approved" or "registered" brand specific to a ranch or individual. In
this case, horses from different states or even different counties in the same
state, MIGHT have the same "approved" or "registered" brand.

I had
my stallion freeze branded about 13 years ago. He is black ( and a gelding now); the freeze brand kills the
color follicles in the hair. So his brand is white
hairs. I also had my NATRC Arab
freeze branded. He ( Comar Rougzon) was gray and the
brand hairs turned black.
The hair grows normal.
All you need to do to keep it very visible is run the clippers over
it occasionally. His brand is his Arabian
registry number, but it is done in the form of a
<. Depending on
the direction of the > it represents a
different number.
I would highly
recommend freeze branding. It takes about 20 seconds as I
recall. I believe the price was somewhere between $50 -$75.
