Re: [RC] OD shoeing/pads - Flora HillmanOK. As another farrier I'll chime in here, too. Like Jody, I have the luxury (if you want to call it that) of doing my guy's (aluminum) shoes on demand. Since most of my training and riding is in the Blue Ridge and on the OD trails in the Massanuttens (eastern rock and gravel roads) the best pad I've found for the job is the Durashock. I get them at Mid-Atlantic farrier supply (Aldie, VA). This is a highly flexible thin pad so it has a certain amount of "give', yet is tough as nails on rocks and gravel. They just don't tear or shear, and I've never lost a shoe with one of these pads yet. I can get 3-4 rocky rides out of a set of pads, and then I cut them down for the driving ponies and get another 5-6 resets from them before they start looking a tad tired and chewed. Even after all this wear, they still have only worn 1/2 way. They aren't cheap, which is why I recycle them down the line of critters to get as much out of the pads as possible. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
