Our
endurance community recently suffered a tremendous loss. CV Iroquois, owned and
ridden by Sharon Dickerson (AERC 6366, 5,685 miles) of Cave
Creek, AZ died on May 8 from
complications of colic the after completing Days 1 and 3 of the Mount Carmel XP
Ride in Utah.
In spite of heroic efforts in base camp and while being rushed to a surgical
clinic in Phoenix,
Iroquois was beyond help and was humanely put down. The results of the necropsy
showed a tear in the stomach lining, which allowed fecal material to pass into
the abdominal cavity.
Iroquois
was a beautiful, willing and personable horse and the love of Sharon’s life. He was all heart and no
quit and will be missed by all of us who had the pleasure of his company on the
trail. Sharon
is heartbroken and misses him terribly. Please feel free to send condolences to
