RE: [RC] [RC] electrolytes - Nancy Mitts

We have a group of our horses on a rented pasture. They have to come up to our place to get their water. It is not at all uncommon for them to drink their fill first, then eat their salt/elyte mix and then go back out without drinking again. However, if you are giving the elytes to encourage drinking then I can see where dosing well in advance of the water source would be necessary.
If the horse has already gotten a big drink I see no problem in dosing with elytes after.

that we should electrolyte them 20 min before they are exposed to water, not
when they are at the water and getting ready to leave it. He mentioned that
the bad part is giving it to them and then not allowing them to have water
when they want it and need it.
