Best trick would be to feed her the alfalfa (:>)! IMHO, this cold snap is not a good time to risk your horse's health. Even Arabs can eat straight alfalfa in very cold weather without problems. Right, Heidi?
Kathy
p.s. I removed over an inch thick sheet of ice from 3 water troughs this morning, had to do it again this afternoon. We're having a cold snap here in
NorCal as well.
The only reason why I'm doing it now is because we Southern Californians
are going through a really nasty cold snap (record breaking lows) and I can't just let her starve until she gets so hungry she breaks down and begins to eat. If this were a normal So Cal winter or a different season I'd let her go hungry, but I don't need or want her to get sick.
