RE: [RC] Rule Change - heidi

reply of next poster
but if the official finish is when the horse pulses down, and the
horse pulses down in 24 minutes, then the horse must be vetted within
30 minutes of that finish, correct? It wouldn't be 30 minutes from
crossing the finish line because the LD horse is not finished
until he pulses down.

If that's how you read it, then how does any horse ever not pulse
down? If he doesn't finish till he pulses down, then it's impossible
not to pulse down witin 30 min. of finishing...they're the same
thing! I think "finishing the course" would be translated as "arrival
at check".

In reality, what the LD riders have to do now is what an amended proposal for
the endurance distances would do--pulse down within half an hour, and have
another half an hour to present to the vet. In other words, their finish is
more like a vet check--and the main difference between LD and the longer
distances is that for LD, the clock keeps running until the pulse comes down.

This is in essence what many of you have expressed as what you want (not the
part about the clock still running, but the part about having the half hour
only apply to pulsing down, and wanting an additional half hour in which to
present your horse) instead of having the 30-minute proposal as originally
presented.

And quite frankly, it is a compromise worth looking at--it would still
accomplish the goal of ensuring that horses pulse down within a reasonable
time, which is the main concern that prompted the proposal. And in reality,
then, the only difference between endurance finishes and LD finishes would be
when the ride clock stops.
