With all due respect I have ridden horses accelerating out of the starting gate...it is at this time that the most stress is put on the legs...not in the race...also the reason for the break is under debate in the race world still. Interference is likely and that can happen to any horse who is really pushing with the force that Barbaro was. No one knows all the facts. It was a freak accident ...they happen in very riding discipline. I would personally breed to Barbaro if I had a chance for his heart alone. He is a great horse with speed, dignity, and a heart of gold. No one but the owners and the vets can know what saving him means to them...if I saw a horse only willing to stand still with head to the ground and a dull uninterested eye, I would suggest that maybe it was time to let him go...but all the footage I have seen shows a perky, interested horse. And for any who wonder I have met Mr. Matz....wonderful trainer, rider, and human being. I would trust him with any of my horses.

Someone mentioned his high stud fees. Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't want to breed to a stallion whose legs were fragile enough to break just accelerating out of a starting gate.
