Re: [RC] Non Arab Pulse downs - Lysane CreeI've heard this complaint too in CTR (I mentioned in another post, that where I ride we have to be at or below 40 by 4 minutes after arriving at the check, otherwise we lose points), and I was starting to believe it since I heard so many times (still do) that I had to be riding an Arab to be competitive. I really picked up on any non-Arab doing well and it encouraged me, as I waited for my horse to grow and be old enough to compete. So I ignored all the "you have to ride an Arab" stuff and diligently worked at learning as much as I could and properly preparing my Paint for her first ride. She has not had trouble meeting criteria, but I believe that I am managing her well and bringing her along slowly and carefully, as I would with any other horse I was riding. When people gripe about not meeting criteria I think it really does a dis-service to the non-Arabs out there. Criteria is the for the benefit of the horse, not for
our benefit. From what I have seen success is based on proper preparation and conditioning, management (sponging, e-lyting, pacing) and the individual horse (i.e. whether the individual horse, regardless of breed, is even cut out to do long distance riding based on conformation, recoveries, etc). I know the pacing is not exactly the same in endurance, but it seems that you end up having more time to complete an endurance ride, than you do on a CTR ride. I'm really not sure I understand the whole debate about not being able to meet the 60 criteria within one hour - if the horse is being ridden within its capabilities for the terrain, weather, etc it shouldn't be a problem. But then again, I still have alot to learn :) Lysane Mary Ann Spencer <maryann.spencer@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Well said!!!! __________________________________________________
