[RC] 10 minute mile - k s swigartHeidi said: Because the walk into camp is a part of the ride, and that is when they actually "finished" even though their racing was stopped 10 minutes and a mile earlier. Virtually NOBODY walks a 10 minute mile (I can do it with a super power walk on a paved road. But nobody can keep up with me when I am doing it). Pretty fast would be a 15 minute mile and a 20 minute mile would be more likely. Which now puts you up to 50 minutes (20 minutes for the mile you walked and 30 minutes for the allowed time) from the time you crossed the finish line to the time you have to vet in (that 50 minutes might as well be 60 anyway). Is the AERC going to implement as part of its rules how fast riders are going to be expected to be able to walk??? Something along the lines of, 30 minutes plus 1 minute for every 100 yards that the finish line is from the vet check???? Or will it leave it up to ride management to determine how many minutes to add for each 100 yards that the finish line is from the final vet check area? And how "fair" is it that rides that have finish lines further away from the vet check allow riders more time (because they are allowed the more time than the stated 30 minutes walk from the end of the race to the vet check) to vet in their horses than those rides that have the finish lines closer in? kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
