RE: [RC] When people ask - heidiWell said, Laney.
I am one of those people who is occasionally "guilty" of making
reference to my experience when offering input. I do it because I
wish other people would. In the e-world, we don't always know
people face to face, and we don't know what basis they have had for
forming the opinions that they offer. I personally like to know
if I'm talking to someone who has ridden, vetted, managed, or hung out
as a volunteer in vital roles long enough to have had an opportunity to
form a broad-based opinion, or if I'm talking to a one-ride expert. When
I go to a doctor for surgery, I like to know that he has done the
procedure before. When I go to a lawyer for real estate advice, I
want to know if he has any experience in the field, or if he has just
done celebrity divorces. You get the picture.
That doesn't mean that the opinions of the less experienced are not
valid--in many ways, they offer a perspective through new sets of eyes
that is very valuable. But if someone with limited experience
makes sweeping, generalized statements, I like to know that they have
limited experience, so I can attribute as much value to those
statements as they are worth.
Just my nickel's worth...
