Much in reference to racing relates to the conditioning of the horse when the race happens. Ranger won my one and only race by a nose at the end of a 60. At this ride the finish was ~a quarter mile from the vet. The rule at that ride was the vet wanted to do a CRI as soon as you got to camp. If your horse passed this was also the completion. I expected to spend most of the hour cooling Ranger. He met criteria by the time I got to camp. (Criteria was probably 64, but my memory is blank on that) My takeaway: If your horse is properly conditioned for the race you can meet criteria in 30 minutes.
