We Yankees, after all, did take a goodly portion of the USA away from Mexico in the first place (and the Spanish overran Mexico and the native population there.) And we took the rest of it away from the Indians. While we cannot go back and undo the damage we did, and while I am grateful to be living here, I often grieve to think of how heartbreaking it must have been to the Indians to see their land taken over, their buffalo slaughtered for fun or to rid the railroads of their presence.
