RE: [RC] FW: Don't pump gas on May 15th/OT but important - Karen FranklinOkay, I feel the need to say something about this. Yes, I am a Petroleum Geologist so I am part of the "EEE-VILL" oil industry, but I'm also a US citizen who buys gas for my car like everyone else. Dawn Carrie makes a good point that if everyone fills up the day before or the day after that it really makes no difference. One thing a lot of people don't usually consider about this industry is that it has to pay fuel costs as well. The cost of simply drilling a well has risen dramatically in the last three years, simply because of fuel costs. If oil companies have that much control over the price of gas, why would they raise prices, simply to have to pay them as well? Think about the many ways this industry has to use fuel to get fuel - driving trucks to and from rigs, using diesel powered rigs, using trucks for transport, etc, etc, etc. And this is only onshore in our own country! Plus it doesn't even include all the support industries who have to raise THEIR prices to the oil industry because of fuel costs. I agree that the cost of fuel is getting out of hand, but I don't agree that boycotting the industry for one day - no matter how many people are involved - is really going to matter. What I do think will matter is changing our lifestyles - we are dependant on the middle east for petroleum products because WE are the one's using the vast majority of them worldwide, so WE are raising the prices. While it's not as feasible in rural communities, people in the cities have access to bike routes, car-pooling, public transportation, etc; possibly even telecommuting. I personally drive a hybrid vehicle and if I could telecommute even one day a week I would. If we're going to lower prices, we have to start by working on our own personal usage, not by trying a one-day-hit on an international industry - have everyone carpool, ride a bike, walk, etc on this day, not just refuse to buy gas. Personally, I wouldn't mind if we could even partially go back to truly horse-powered vehicles! (I'll take that sporty model with the 1-norwegian-fjord-powered "engine"!) :) Karen E. I'm going to do this have thought I'd pass it on. I do know it is for real also as it's also going around My Space as well. My kids are going to boycott too. Very hard on them as well and they are mad so are going to support the boycott. You can plan to buy gas the day or so before or after. Just not on that day. hope there will be support enought to make a statement. Sorry Off topic, but in a way not. Affects going to rides too, and RM's loose $$ if we can't get there. Hope nobody minds this... kathie From: "Jeff Martinsen" <ajmar60@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ajmar60@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: FW: Don't pump gas on May 15th Date: Tue, 1 May 2007 18:52:50 -0700 I don't usually forward stuff like this- but- since the oil companies cite "Market Forces" being behind the high price of gas, let's see if that's true. Passing it on, tell your friends.... NO GAS...On May 15th 2007 Don't pump gas on MAY 15th In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight. On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places. There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up. If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day. If you agree resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th" _____ _________________________________________________________________ Mortgage refinance is Hot. *Terms. Get a 5.375%* fix rate.
