RE: [RC] pacing question redux from a newbie - Jannelle Wilde & Adam FalkBy letting her "run it out" at the beginning you are setting a bad precedence. As a rule I suggest warming up and just trotting, as fast as she wants to trot to the first vet check. Usually by that point the pack has thinned and brains have settled. I expect to travel at a trot for most of the ride, I may walk some but out of 50 or 75 miles I do less than 5% at a walk. I will allow a loop and even a gallop depending on how we are feeling but usually not until after 50% of the ride is done. For the last loop I will usually let her go if all of her vet scores are good and she feels like running still. I hope this helps Adam Jannelle Wilde & Adam Falk 584 Romie Howard Rd. I have a TB mare who's definitely NOT out of control , but likes to motor. Was wondering what the quintessential wisdom/etiquette would be at the start. I know ... start at the back and wait for the proceedings, but more the issue is ...the strategy of letting let her move out and work some of it out initially. What say you? many thanx all GP GP at the Fish Creek House gp@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx A horse is the projection of peoples' dreams about themselves - strong, powerful, beautiful - and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
