I do a trace clip.? That way I only need to blanket at night or in nasty weather, but my horse gets some relief from a full winter coat.? I don't clip in summer -- at least this horse.? My old horse got a trace clip in summer, too, but he was 24 and had a "summer coat" that was as heavy as my present horses'? winter coat. - around age 20, the older he got, the longer his coat got.?
I have the Oster which I bought for my old horse.? Had to go out and buy the smaller (and quieter) Wahl for my new horse.? He wouldn't let the Oster clippers within 4 feet.? The Wahl instructions with mine said not to use cooling spray as it could damage the case - just to oil frequently.? ?

And don't forget the cooling spray!? I also have the Oster and the Cordless Wahl.? Very handy.? I do not body clip I neat up.? I don't trim wiskers any more they need them for grazing.? I don't like them to be itchy and I don't like their skin exposed to unnecessary harmful UV rays.? I also feel, from my research over the last 30 years, that it can mess with their metabolism.? Much the way shaving a double coated dog will do.? Their bodies are such that they can adjust to the heat and the cold with their undercoats.? I would think it would be the same for horses.? So, I'd have to wonder if a body clipped horse would require MORE electrolytes than less.? Just a thought!
