RE: [RC] [RC] GPS - shermanI don't think there's any way to safely cross the river at this time. What we are actually trying to determine is the distance from Poverty Bar (at the river crossing) to Hwy 49, along Quarry Rd. I think...maybe I ASSumed that Dave was talking about the 49 crossing near the confluence which is used during the 100 mile ride, when he could have been talking about 49 crossing near Cool. Oh my, there are all sorts of options on how to go here (:>) Anyway, since the distance from the river crossing to No Hands Bridge, which is a bit across Hwy 49, is only 7 miles according to The Tevis Trail map, it doesn't make sense that it would be posted as 8.1 miles coming a shorter distance from the other direction, from Hwy 49 to Poverty Bar. Whew, now I'm really confused... Kathy Here's Dave's original post... Just used for the first time my new Garman "Legend" and I have a question for those of you who know something about GPS. We rode the Western States Trail (Tevis) yesterday from the Hwy.49 crossing to a mile past Poverty Bar. The Trail signs said that distance was about eight miles one way. The GPS, however, stated it was only 6.1 miles one way. Why the discrepancy? I can't believe the state parks/WSTF were that far off when posting their signs. So what's the explanation? Thanx. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
