Re: [RC] Chalk and Cheese (was: Boldness in horses) - D'Arcy Demianoff-ThompsonThis is so true! All that is accomplished with raising in a herd and not socializing a foal with humans is an antisocial equine that is very hard to catch in any herd situation. This can happen on a small 4 acre pasture as easily as a 100+ acre pasture! If anyone has read or studied about Arabians long and hard enough you know that their innate ability is to 'tuck and run' to save themselves from an offending tribe catching them! Arabian mares are one of the prime examples of the equine species with innate abilities to protect their young - at any cost. One may think that they have been domesticated with deluded desert bred lines long enough that this would not be so. I beg to differ with you. I have about 10 mares that would give up their lives to save their foals from anyone they do not know from taking them! Including mares that will protect another mares foal (babysitter type) in order to preserve and protect their herd! They are amazing amazing horses - the Arabian! Not that I am bias. I was raised with thoroughbreds (my Mother's) and running quarters (my Father's). Saw an Arabian in a pasture with her foal in 1987 and that was all she wrote! D'Arcy L. It is interaction with people that does this. kat>> =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
