Re: [RC] Steel or Aluminum shoes? - Sisu West Ranch

I have only seen, personally, one endurance horse shod in Aluminum shoes.  By the end of the ride they were trashed.  The ride was about average in abrasiveness, and the horse before and after was not hard on steel shoes.

There is real differences in how hard horses are on shoes.  Perhaps, a horse easy on shoes could successfully be shod in Aluminum, if the environment was not particularly abrasive.  The other end of the spectrum is Ranger.  He needs hard surfaced steel shoes or he wears them out in about a month.

Yes, I do know that "proper" conformation would prevent excess shoe wear, but we got to deal with the horse we have.
