Re: [RC] Trot Question for the Engineers - rides2farI don't know if I've seen a horse trot any wider than Kaboot. His basic build is to where his butt muscles don't touch so he can't get a lather between his hind legs. He is built wide *and* bow legged. When he trots big he sort of does like a speed boat, the rear end lowers and he spreads so wide he leaves tracks like a rabbit. His head chugged right to left and he sort of swung those hing legs wide rather than lifting up and forward with a lot of hock action. That said he is heavy on the forehand at times, worse at a canter where he lowers his head and pulls long and low. He did flip twice at a trot during his career and probably being heavy on the forehand would increase those chances. His back was long, but a very strong loin, never had a sore back diagnosed in 3000 miles. When I imagine his big trot, I can see what Kat's talking about on the "braking" thing. His was a POWER trot, none of this skimming the ground thing. He felt like he "took command" of the ground and you knew when those front feet hit, but it wasn't jarring. In comparison, Josie's horse Cade seems to float along while Kaboot went BOOM... BOOM... BOOM.
