Re: [RC] [RC] trotting diagonals - Diana Peterson

I change my gelding every 10 steps. He always likes me more on his right...but when i had been adjusted by me chiropracticer...he does not mind me on both diagonals.

Also when he is nervous on the trail because of wind or just because.. ( arabs don't need a reason lol ) he becomes calmer when i do a 10 /10 posting.
last week before i was at my chiropracticer he didn't want me at ALL on his left. ? wierd ,huh ?

So I know definetly when i am out of wack .....my horse tells me.

Diana :-)

I'm with you, Angie: I prefer the left! And I think you're right that we don't always change our body position completely when we change diagonals. If it doesn't rain again tomorrow, I'm going to try to observe what I do when I change diagonals. At least I know enough to do that frequently.

My horse has low heel on his left front, throws me onto the right

Sometimes I just give up and 2-point a lot.

I tend to swear all horses throw me on their left. A friend of mine claimed all hers threw her on her right and her current horse would not let her ride the left. Then she was out sick for a while and I campaigned her horse...guess what. Seemed to me that he wanted me on the left. I believe it is more a rider issue that becomes a horse issue if the same person rides them long enough.

I agree totally with Kat that it's easier to ride our unaccustomed
diagonal for short periods. After Melissa Crain told us she changes
every 6 beats we started trying that. (I heard Earl Baxter changes every
10). Melissa goes along singing "Cruising along in my Pink Cadillac". I
like, "Shall, we dance...bom bom bom bom (good place to change diagonals)
shall we walze with each other shall we dance...bom bom bom bom. :-)

I believe that as a confirmed left diagonal preference person I ride with
my hips ever so slightly cocked to that angle. If I check just what
contact I have with my seat bones and then when I switch to the right
change to the point that I have that contact in reverse, I can ride the
right better. (If I'm riding with the reins in one hand I switch rein
hand.) I think our problem is we don't change our seat when we change
our diagonal.

Angie (untrained, but tries to be observant)
