You are right, but I suspect that the variation you saw is more typical of extruded or molded parts. My aluminum stirrups were made by bending a stamped sheet of Aluminum. I would expect a rolling mill to produce a pretty much void free product. On the other hand if it were to be using remelted scrap, various batches could vary widely in their properties.
