Re: [RC] Trace Tribute saga (long) - Sharon LevasseurI'm sure our wonderful Dr. Q will chime in here. My chiropractor told me that what I think of as "shin splints" really is the top of my fibula (outer lower leg bone) coming slightly out of place from where it connects with the knee. He said that a real shin splint is tiny fractures in the bone, and that doesn't come and go! His solution for me has been to adjust the fibular head whenever I'm having trouble while I ride, and whenever I have trouble when I'm just sitting around he tapes my kneecaps up for a few days. (I'm guessing that must be caused by a slightly different issue.) I don't have either of these problems nearly as much now that I've 1) stopped wearing tight half chaps, 2) shortened my stirrup straps so I'm not standing on my toes, 3) started wearing custom orthotics with all 3 arches on each foot really tall, and 4) getting adjusted regularly. So... no answers for you, just thoughts... -Sharon L. in Maine =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
