[RC] equitation - judging according to whom - Sheila_Larsen

For many many years I took "classical" dressage lesson and cliniced with
some very well known dressage riders. Unfortunately the "classical" seat
was developed for and by men. (Ok it is not their fault not many women were
riding back then) Therein lies the problem, women's hips are not designed
like men's hips so men can develop a seat that has the thigh flat against
the saddle which allows the knee to be in while keeping the lower leg in
gentle contact on the horse. I have fairly flat thighs and was able to use
that seat for quite some time and then I started developing knee and hip
problems. I was fortunate enough to hook up with a centered riding
instructor for quite some time and that helped significantly. My current
dressage instructor encourages my knees to be out with my lower leg resting
against the horse. A loose thigh and knee absorbs much of the motion of
the horse which is good because that motion has to be absorbed somewhere
and if you look at many women dressage riders you will see the bobbing
chicken neck.

My point being women do not necessarily want to sit like men dressage
riders. Other than that go forth and do perfect 20 meter circles,
shoulder-ins, and leg yields.
Thanks,
Sheila
