[RC] Change to OD - no more Shenandoah River Crossing!! - Mary HowellSeveral of us here in Virginia just realized that ridecamp for the Old Dominion 25/50/100 in June will no longer be at the 4-H Center outside Front Royal, but at Fort Valley Stables (same place as last year's Ntl Championship) Ride Manager John Marsh explained that the number of private land owners whose land the trail needs to cross are growing in numbers and resisting requests to use their land for trails. He added: "Not only is this a permanent change - most likely in future years the OD will not be held in Fort Valley at all but this is not final yet. Looking at the George Washington Nat Forest west of I-81 as a possible site. For those who want to ride Fort Valley in competition - do it this year or risk missing out entirely. The trails for the events this year will be the same trails used in the National Championships last fall, and many segments are the same as prior OD events, just not the segment to and from the 4-H center over Skyline Drive." I sure will miss the interesting 12.5 mile section of OD trail east of McCoys, which included traveling through the village of Limeton as well as crossing Skyline Drive. Without the crossing of the Shenandoah at McCoys Ford, those dramatic photos of horses crossing the rocky riverbed in the early morning mist, that so often graced the covers of Endurance News, will no longer be possible. One good thing about this change is that crews won't have to do as much driving to get from hold to hold. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
