I hear this same thing over and over--that somehow people who "live" in
dry climates just can't possibly understand the needs or differences in other climates. As John pointed out, the ride he was talking about was in Malaysia, NOT in Idaho... And Malaysia is probably more extreme with regard to heat and humidity than pretty much anything even the folks in the SE region encounter.
I also "live" in dryer Idaho, but have based my own observations on
rides in TX and CA that were also hot and often humid, as well as on rides here at home. None of us live in a vacuum, and as for the idea that those of us who don't "live" in the SE can't possibly comprehend the conditions, as my daddy used to say, "that dog don't hunt."
There is plenty of evidence that horses do fine in hotter, more humid
conditions without e-lytes or with fewer e-lytes than we are giving.
