Done right, the horse actually seeks the contact with the bit as it's a communication tool for him to the rider... it goes both ways. It's not a matter of y anking on the horse's mouth causing pain, it's a matter of communication like telephone lines from the rider's hands to the horse's mouth. Yes, you can have that communication wtih a bosal, bitless bridle, sidepull, etc. But never forget, each of those has some kind of pressure somewhere on the horse. Each piece of equipment can cause pain if used wrong, or be a marvelous tool if used right.
