I’ve
been following the subject of the cougar attacks, I used to live in cougar
country up in the interior of British Columbia and there were attacks on the occasional dog by cougars the
cougars were usually either young or old.
But about 12 years ago maybe a little
longer a family that was out riding Mother and 3 or 4 kids were attacked ,the
cougar attacked them on horseback the mothers horse spooked and the cougar got
her down the kids went for help the mother was killed this happened in Princeton
British Columbia, a tragic story. But that is fairly rare. They also have the occasional
attack on Vancouver Island.
I used to ride way up in the mountains
there, bears, rattlesnakes, and all but I was always more afraid of coming across
the 2 legged variety of predator then wild life and I never did encounter any
cougars but…..I always had the feeling especially when my horse would get
agitated that there was some thing out there up in the ponderosa pines or on an
overhang watching. Once I even rode
through a head of 30 or so Elk I will always cherish that memory they were as
big as my horse a little Arab she just went right on didn’t blink an eye!

I wonder if there's been a study linking the lack of
cougar attacks of human mothers, especially those of toddlers and young
children. After all, they've got eyes in the back of their heads.
