Re: [RC] Marwari Horses from India(Newbie) - Linda MiramsOn Fri, 9 Mar 2007 17:30:44 -0800 (PST), edna leigh libby wrote ... My question today is what anyone knows about the Marwari Horse from India. I recently discovered someone who has one trained in Dressage--the first one purchased in America in 2001. I had never heard of them before. another desert breed with a fascinating history. I wonder why they are not more popular for CTR Endurance. Here are a couple of links: I first asked about "those Indian horses with the funny corkscrew ears" on Ridecamp (or was it rec.equestrian?) around 12 years ago. At the time, nobody knew any more than I did (which was nothing). Your link pointing to the Smithsonian Magazine article was excellent. I am glad to see the breed is making some penetration into our consciousness. They certainly have the slab-sided, weedy build to disperse body heat. If you want to see the horses in motion, rent the video of the "The Far Pavillions" miniseries, filmed in the 1980s in India. Star Ben Cross is riding a Marwari on the caravan to escort princess Amy Irving to her wedding.
