Take it from someone who operates a rescue; horses are going for under
$100.00 dollars every day. Well trained, fat, registered, nice
personalities are selling for $250.00. Some others for pennies. I
have people contacting me DAILY to get me to take horses for free that they
cannot/will not care for. Yes, there are a few niche markets out
there, but many breeders are moving their horses any way they can, including
dumping them at auction barns and the horses are selling for killer prices which
are .32 a pound. So, as a word of advice - don't be breeding any horses
right now unless you are fully prepared to keep them for their entire
lives.
Once the anti-slaughter bill passes, it will be much worse. If you
read this list the past 2 days you could easily see that this issue of
overpopulation of horses is touching EVERYONE!!! Including Ridecamp.
Do our magnificent horses a favor and don't add to the ever increasing
burden that is being addressed in America by allowing wonderful animals - over
106,000 in the US last year and 30,000 taken to Canada and Mexico - to be
categorically slaughtered.

I am curious about the market of endurance horses
for sale. Does anyone have any experience in selling endurance
horses? How much are they selling for? What kind of
personality/mileage records/physical characterisitics are buyers looking
for? What about horses for junior riders? I am also wondering
about the market for horses in other disciplines, too; how easily are
horses selling, and what are people looking for in trail horses/CTR
horses/hunters/western pleasure. Any information you folks have would
be helpful.
Thanks!
