No "presumably" about it..  <g>  A horse that appears "way back" in the pedigree but that represents 25% of the pedigree can actually have more of his genome represented in an individual than if he was a grandparent and thus also represented 25% of the pedigree, IF he occurs through a variety of his offspring.  A horse like Wendy's that is 64% *Raffles may actually have more representation of *Raffles in his own genome than a son or daughter of *Raffles would have.
 
Most of our horses have anywhere from 12% to 20% Mesaoud breeding, although only one still shows Mesaoud on a 5-generation pedigree.  But one can clearly SEE the Mesaoud influence in several of them.

Good point, Dawn.  Presumably the degree of "blood" increases with more
lines back to the same horse.
