Re: [RC] re: 30 min rule - rides2farI usually vet in within 5 mins. and most of the other folks I know do the same. So do I, *but*, here's a real life scenario. I finish at the Big South Fork ride. The finish line is a long walk from the vet check. If you top 10 and need to do a 15 min. CRI chances are you'd better stay on the horse and trot part of the way back to camp to make sure you're not late. I generally get off my horse and lead him in and it's at least 15 min. Then, my trailer is at the far end of the field and we do have to pull tack for completion. I have my choice, I can go to the trailer, pull tack and then go to the vet check and there's a good chance I'll be cutting it close on the 30 min, or I can go to the vet check, pull off all my tack, vet through, then have to get all that tack back to the trailer (major pain in the butt). Has nothing to do with what his pulse is, just the *getting there*. No, there's not a vet at the finish line. Vets are darned busy in the vet check at that time of day doing completion exams and judging BC. Why does the vet want tack off at the finish? To give a good check of the horse's back, I demand that the rule be nationwide. Who's out there looking out for the rights of the horse's back? Where's our back welfare committee on this? >G< Angie McGhee http://www.lightersideofendurance.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
