Re: [RC] 60, 64 pulse - Truman PrevattWe did a little informal survey at a ride some time back. The criteria was 64. We noted how many horses were actually over 60 when they pulsed in. What seems to happen is riders will come in when the horse hits 64 or lower but by the time they get in and the pulse is taken - the horse is at 60 or below. There only a hand full of horses that were between 60 and 64 for all checks. So that's a hand full over about 300 pulses that day. At least on that day it didn't matter. My horse is normally 60 or lower when I present him although I go in at 64. My old mare I learned to go in at 68 and she was normally about 56 when checked. But it needs to be looked at with some objective metric. The Biltmore has been 60 for some time and it traditionally has the most treatments of any ride in the SE - is it the 60 pulse? One year we had 7 horses treated. The next year my vet made the pulse 60. Guess what, no more horses treated! That's the only statistic I have./* -- “He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.
