Re: [RC] Land useage for rides - rides2farI believe the Skymont ride is on 2500 acres and they have 25 miles of trail (EVERY INCH of 25 miles Kat. :-)) It does twist and turn a lot and being heavily wooded helps you not realize you are so close to other sections of trail. It is private land owned by the Boy Scouts of America. There's another ride hosted by the Boy Scouts (the Pow Wow) so you might check to see if there's any local Boy Scout land holdings. Around here if we want a place for a ride our first choice is usually a WMA (Wildlife Management Area) which is basically a State Forest, then there's the National Forest. Look for the word FOREST not PARK. Next would be private land I suppose. The Berry College campus has hosted a 100 miler before (largest private land owner in GA I believe). The Biltmore Estate is private land, then there's places where roads are dirt like in Soperton, GA where you go on a mixture of roads and private land. Oh yeah, there's "Hunt Clubs". Some rides are held on those outside hunting season. How much land does it require to put on a 50+. I have done 50's that were with only one vet check that we looped through, not my favorite, and then the ones that are one huge circle, much better. From a Ride Manager standpoint, how do you choose where to put on your rides? If, hypothetically, I were to want to put on a ride how would you direct me towards selecting the right type of property? Would I need to look for 100 acres (smaller ride of course) , 500 acres 1000+ acres? I would like to know more towards the 50+ distance rides. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
