RE: [RC] Has anybody ever tried or heard of this being done? - Julie FullerJesse,I think starting with Diane's suggestion is a good idea. You don't mention the brand of Aussie you ride, but I have had really good luck with mine, from two different dealers here in the States. If you elect to have stuffing removed, (which I think is a good idea) I would suggest using a pad underneath that is very firm... perhaps one of those good, old-fashioned felt/canvas type pads. They conform well to a horses back, and would likely distribute weight quite evenly once broke in. I would stick with one about 1/2 inch thick. As for padding for you, I can tell you what I did. I bought a sheepskin... the whole thing. It's gorgeous, thick and washable. I threw it over the saddle, then cut slits in it for the over-girth, and the rings behind the seat. With the over-girth holding it down n the front, and the straps of my pack through the rings in the back, it doesn't go anywhere. After it's broke in a bit, you can cut off any parts that get in your way... or leave them for that barbarian look. *grin* I LOVE my sheepskin!
