Re: [RC] Worrying in advance - Sharon Levasseur

I hadn't thought of having a "dogs on leash" policy listed in the flyer, only
because the ride flyers I copied from didn't have one. Good idea, both on its
own merits and because it might indeed help in my arguments to the barn owner.

I wasn't going to use the potential liability issues, for just that reason. ;-)

Thanks!

Sharon,

Instead of letting the barn owners know there might be a liability problem
with the dogs (could set off red flags and make them apprehensive about
having a ridecamp on the property), why don't you go ask them how they want
to handle it. I don't know what your ridecamp policy is about others bringing
dogs to the ride, but if you have a no dogs allowed or only on a leash
policy, let the barn owners know and then let them decide if they want to
keep their own dogs in for the day or not. You might point out that you are
concerned about one of their dogs getting hurt. If they do decide to let the
dogs roam, you might want to have a no dogs at camp policy and make a note on
the entry that there will be ranch dogs loose so at least the riders will be
aware. Maybe even announce it at the ride meeting so people understand that
this is the dogs home. Hopefully though, the owners will want to keep the
dogs penned.

IMO, I would rather be able to have a new ride to go to and plan ahead for
some loose dogs than not have a ride to attend.

Diane
